As a leader, how do you learn not to compromise at such a level. To please shareholders and at the same time be considerate of people’s lives?

A: The job is already half done because a shareholder is looking to earn a return, either through a dividend or capital growth so he can continue to fulfil the needs of his life, whilst an employee is looking to earn a salary to fulfill whatever needs they have. There is no better definition of goal congruence! Richard Branson rightly puts it, “take care of your employees, and the rest will take care of itself.” By virtue of ensuring the well-being of your employees and leading them by taking care of their interests, they in turn are motivated to deliver excellent quality service to your customers. This then translates into more revenue and better returns for your shareholders!
